About the Abrahams Variation

The Abrahams Variation meets the accepted Wing Gambit with 3. Bb2. The bishop goes to the long diagonal toward e5 and g7, and White does not spend a tempo on 3. a3 to reopen lines or regain the pawn. White stays a pawn down and relies on rapid development and central play. The engine gives Black a slight edge and prefers 3...e6, 3...Nf6 and 3...d6. In practice 3...Nc6 is the most common reply, and online results are close to even.
