The Santasiere Variation meets the accepted Wing Gambit with 3. c4. Instead of challenging the b4-pawn with 3. a3, White places a second pawn beside e4, aiming for a broad center rather than a quick return of material. Black can capture en passant with 3...bxc3, by far the most common reply. 3...d6 and 3...Nc6 are less frequent. The engine rates Black clearly better, and the line is rarely seen.
