Sharp Czech Slav line in which White grabs the center with 8. e4, usually met by a piece sacrifice on e4 that leads to a forced, theory-heavy struggle.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Sharp Line
The Sharp Line, 8. e4, seizes the center, hits the f5-bishop and prepares to regain the c4-pawn. Retreating concedes the center for nothing, so the main reply is the piece sacrifice 8...Bxe4 9. fxe4 Nxe4, eyeing c3 and d4. White chooses between 10. Bd2 Qxd4 11. Nxe4 Qxe4+ 12. Qe2 Bxd2+ 13. Kxd2 Qd5+, an endgame with three pawns for the piece that tends to favor White, and 10. Qf3, leading to perpetual check.
