The Venezolana Variation of the Van Geet Opening, 1. Nc3 d5 2. d3 Nf6 3. g3, has White choose a restrained setup with d3 and a kingside fianchetto, conceding the center to Black. The most common reply is 3...e5, claiming a broad pawn center, followed by 3...e6. The thrust 3...d4, gaining space with tempo against the knight, scores well for Black, and the engine assesses the position as slightly favoring Black. The line is seldom played.
