Train it in TheoriaAbout the Lewis Countergambit
The Lewis Countergambit answers the Philidor Variation, 3. c3, with 3...d5, hitting the bishop and e4 before White can carry out d4. It bears the name of the English writer William Lewis, whose 1834 analysis covered it. White usually captures with 4. exd5, while 4. Bxd5 Nf6 5. d4 is the Walker Variation. The engine rates the position as balanced, and the line is seldom played.
