About the Botvinnik System

The Botvinnik System adds 6. e4 to the Closed English, giving White a c4-d3-e4 chain that clamps d5 opposite Black's d6-e5 center; the setup, usually completed with Ne2, is also used against other Black defenses. Black most often answers 6...Nge7, with 6...f5 and 6...Be6 also common. The engine rates the position as roughly balanced, and practical results are close to even.
