A rare branch of the Charousek Gambit in the Falkbeer Countergambit where White develops with 5. Nd2, adding pressure to Black's e4-pawn.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Keres Variation
The Keres Variation, 5. Nd2, develops the queen's knight onto the e4-pawn, adding a second attacker alongside the d3-pawn, rather than pinning it with 5. Qe2 or exchanging with 5. dxe4. The most common reply is 5...e3, a thrust that hits the knight. Next come 5...Qxd5, which regains the d5-pawn, and 5...exd3, which has scored poorly for Black. The engine rates the position as roughly balanced, and the line is seldom played.
