Korchnoi's 9. b4 in the Mar del Plata King's Indian, starting White's queenside pawn storm at once instead of first regrouping the f3-knight.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Bayonet Attack
With 9. b4 White skips the knight regroupings 9. Ne1 and 9. Nd2 and starts the queenside advance at once, preparing c4-c5 while Black builds toward ...f5. Korchnoi introduced it in the 1970s, and it long deterred top players from the line until Radjabov revived it for Black. The usual replies are 9...a5, 9...Ne8 and 9...Nh5. After 9...Nh5, 10. Re1 is Sokolov's Line and 10. Qc2 is Yepishin's Line. Engines give White a slight edge.
