Train it in TheoriaAbout the Alekhine System
With 7. Qe2 White allows the ...b5 advance that 6...a6 prepares, instead of preventing it with 7. a4. The queen vacates d1 for a rook and backs up a later e4. Black usually accepts with 7...b5, in about two games out of three. 8. Bb3 Bb7 is the Main Line, and the Smyslov Variation continues 9. Rd1 Nbd7 10. Nc3 Bd6. The rarer 7...Nc6 has scored well for Black on Lichess. The engine rates the position as roughly balanced.
