Tarrasch Defense line in which White answers 9...Bxc5 with 10. Na4, chasing Black's dark-squared bishop in an isolated d-pawn structure.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Réti Variation
The Réti Variation meets the recapture 9...Bxc5 with 10. Na4, which attacks the bishop and offers to trade the knight for Black's dark-squared bishop. That bishop is an important defender of the dark squares around the isolated d5-pawn. Black most often retreats with 10...Be7. The alternatives 10...Bd6 and 10...Bb6 are less common. The engine rates the position as roughly balanced, and practical results are fairly even.
