Train it in TheoriaAbout the Hamppe-Allgaier Gambit
The Hamppe-Allgaier Gambit, 5. h4 g4 6. Ng5, leaves the white knight en prise. Rather than retreating it, White intends to give it up on f7 and expose the black king. The usual reply is 6...h6 7. Nxf7 Kxf7, and 8. d4 then forms the Thorold Variation. The Alapin Variation, 6...d6, is the main alternative. The engine gives Black a clear advantage, yet White scores well in practice, especially against the rarer 6...f6.
