Classical System of the King's Indian Mar del Plata (E98): White reroutes the knight with 9. Ne1 toward d3 to back c4-c5 while Black prepares ...f5.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Classical System
With 9. Ne1 White reroutes the knight to d3, where it supports the c4-c5 break, is safe from a later ...g4, and frees the f-pawn for f3. Black most often answers 9...Nd7, which slows c5, or 9...Ne8; both clear the way for ...f5. After 9...Nd7, White chooses between 10. Be3, the Neo-Classical Line, and 10. f3 f5, the Traditional Line, where 11. g4 is the Benko Attack. Engines give White a slight edge.
